About Us

Our Department of Geography was established in 2011 within the Faculty of Science and Letters in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880, and began admitting students in the 2019-2020 academic year. Starting from the 2019-2021 academic year, our department began admitting students, and with the decision made by YÖK in 2023, the Geography Master's Program with Thesis and the Geography Master's Program were approved to be offered under the Institute of Graduate Education at Iğdır University.

The Department of Geography provides students with scientific knowledge and research methods that enable them to understand the natural, human, and economic characteristics of Turkey and other countries around the world, as well as to perform basic analysis and synthesis related to these characteristics. Graduates of this program will be able to contribute to the creation of suitable living conditions by preserving the delicate balances of nature in human-environment interactions and offer contemporary solutions to current global issues.

Fields of Employment

​Graduates of the Department of Geography who successfully complete the Non-Thesis Master's Program in Secondary Education Field Teaching can work as Geography Teachers in high schools, equivalent schools, and private secondary education institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. In addition, graduates of the department can work in the following professions in Turkey and abroad, thanks to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) courses they take during their 4 years of study:
