About Us

Our Department of Geography was established in 2011 within the Faculty of Science and Letters in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880, and began admitting students in the 2019-2020 academic year. Starting from the 2019-2021 academic year, our department began admitting students, and with the decision made by YÖK in 2023, the Geography Master's Program with Thesis and the Geography Master's Program were approved to be offered under the Institute of Graduate Education at Iğdır University.

Coğrafya Bölümü öğrencilerine, Türkiye'nin ve Dünyanın diğer ülkelerinin doğal, beşeri ve ekonomik özelliklerini kavrayabilmelerini ve bu özelliklere dair temel analiz ve sentez çalışmalarını yapabilmelerini sağlayacak, bilimsel bilgi ve araştırma yöntemlerini vermektedir. Bu eğitimi alan bireyler, insan-doğa etkileşiminde doğanın hassas dengelerini koruyarak uygun yaşam koşullarının ortaya çıkarılmasına hizmet edebilecek ve günümüz sorunlarına çağdaş yöntemlerle çözümler üretebilecektir.​

Programın eğitim amaçları: (1) Temel coğrafya bilgisine sahip, (2) doğal ve beşerî çevre verilerini üretebilen, (3) bu verileri Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri (CBS) ile işleyen, değerlendiren ve yöneten mezunlar yetiştirmek; ayrıca (4) başta Iğdır ve çevresi olmak üzere Türkiye’nin mekânsal sorunlarına bilimsel çözümler üreten, sürekli gelişen bir bölüm kimliğini sürdürmektir. 


Fields of Employment

​Graduates of the Department of Geography who successfully complete the Non-Thesis Master's Program in Secondary Education Field Teaching can work as Geography Teachers in high schools, equivalent schools, and private secondary education institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. In addition, graduates of the department can work in the following professions in Turkey and abroad, thanks to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) courses they take during their 4 years of study:
